How to Make Orange Ginger Glazed Sweet Potatoes

Everyone loves sweet potatoes for holiday dinners. This recipe provides a few different flavors to the traditional sweet potato dish. Orange juice mixed with ginger makes a sweet glaze that is also low fat.

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 to 6 sweet potatoes
  • 3 cups orange juice
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. powered ginger or 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. white pepper
  • 1/3 cup water and 1/3 cup cornstarch, mixed
  1. Step 1

    Cut sweet potatoes into cubes and boil until tender. You can use canned sweet potatoes if you prefer.

  2. Step 2

    Bring orange juice, brown sugar and spices to a rolling boil. You can use other combinations of juice, sugar, and spices such as pineapple juice and white sugar or apple juice and brown sugar.

  3. Step 3

    Mix corn starch and water together and stir until completely dissolved.

  4. Step 4

    Mix corn starch solution into the boiling orange juice solution and stir until thickened.

  5. Step 5

    Pour orange glaze over sweet potatoes and mix.

  6. Step 6

    Bake at 375 degrees F until heated through.

  • You can always add marshmallows, nuts, apples or anything you can think of to modify the recipe.
