Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Clean clay pots
- Acrylic paints in assorted colors
- Foam brushes (these work well in different sizes)
- Small artist paint brushes
- Cotton swabs (work well for small designs and in small spaces)
Step1
Wash the clay pots with a hot water and soap. I use Shaklee Basic H2, which is non-toxin, and it will not hurt any plant.
Step2
Lay down newspaper or brown paper, whatever you have on hand will work to cover up the surface of your table.
Step3
If you feel more comfortable planning out your design now is when you would want to do that. Simply use a pencil to draw it onto your clay pot once it dries. This will also give your clay pot time to dry.
Step4
If you want to mix a lighter color or a darker color than the acrylic paint you have on hand, a paper plate works well for this.
Step5
You are ready to start painting your clay pot as soon as they are dry and your space for working is set up.

on 12/18/2007 I am so glad you like this idea, every plant in my house has it's own painted pot. My daughter and I just enjoy doing this together. Your idea to give as a gift is a wonderful idea.

on 12/17/2007 What a great idea. I have lots of clay pots, I think I will decorate them and put a small plant in them and give them as gifts. Thanks for the idea.
