The Internet has changed the way job searches take place. There are a variety of new tactics and techniques that the prospective job seeker can utilize to land that dream gig.
Profiles on Professional Networking Sites are a Better Bet
It's usually easier to get a job if you have a job. If you're currently employed you would be well served to post a profile on www.zoominfo.com or www.linkedin.com. Headhunters and corporate recruiters tend to troll these sites looking for people who are currently employed.
Step2
Don't Post Your Resume on Generic Job Boards
While you're almost obligated to search on generic job boards such as monster or hotjobs; you're more likely to generate solid leads using a targeted jobs board such as www.ladders.com; www.medzilla.com or www.journalismjobs.com. Don't post your resume on monster or hotjobs - you may appear desperate to a recruiter.
Step3
Conduct a Search of Your Own Name - a Recruiter Will Find Whatever You Find
Make sure you do a web search on your own name. You may find someone with the same name may have a criminal record or other unsavory factoids floating out there in cyberspace - forewarned is forearmed.
Step4
VideoResume Tips: Use a Script; Practice; Be Professional
Here is where the video camera may be of use. More and more people are taping 2-4 minute video snippets of themselves and posting the video on web sites such as www.youtube.com. This could be risky, but if you're comfortable in front of the camera it could be just the ticket to make you stand out.
Tips & Warnings
If you decide to create a video resume make sure you dress professionally, and act the same way you would in an interview.
Searching for a job can be challenging, so it's always best to look when you have a job rather than when you NEED to find one.

I would love it if the employer would put those videos out about the job. You could walk in ahead of the game if you had a chance to read the interviewer ahead of time.
