Step 1
The first step in teaching your twins to share is to start when they are born. Literally begin to talk to them about the importance of sharing everything. Infants do pick up on things like this; and it is now thought that we have not scratched the surface of the infant's learning possibilities. When you are playing with the rattle, ask if Mommy can play with it, too. Do this with any and all things you do with your infant.
-
Step 2
As soon as your twins begin to play with toys, make sharing a game between them. Lay out two toys that they both love, and have them trade often. Use the words share and speak to your twins in adult speak. If you baby talk them all the time, they may have some language delays.
-
Step 3
Be very careful that you exhibit the same sharing skills that you are asking of your twins. When Mommy and Daddy are eating and playing, they must share with each other too. It is important that you state what you are doing, and use the magic words!
-
Step 4
Play the rotate game. Rotate is a game where you pick out five toys to play with for your twins. Put them in five places, and have the kids move from station to station when you call out rotate. This helps them to learn that they need not be attached to only one toy or activity. It also will build patience since they must wait for their favorite toys.
-
Step 5
Praise your children when they share every single time. Kids want to please you and if you make it clear that sharing is a good thing, they will want to do it more. Put special emphasis on the fact that they were sharing with each other and that is a good thing. Emphasis and excitement are the keys here. Be demonstrative!

on 3/23/2008 Right now, my twins are 2 years old and teaching them to share is not an easy thing to accomplish. Each day, I ask them to be nice to each other and share. They just do not either A, get it or B, want to share at this point.
But, I keep doing my best.
God Bless!
