Buying a snowboard jacket isn't just about the look, it needs to have the proper waterproofing and breath-ability for your riding conditions. Here are some tips on how to buy a snowboard jacket

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The most important step in buying a snowboard jacket is making sure that it will keep you warm and dry. When you shop for your snowboarding jacket there are two important numbers to look for. The waterproofing, indicated by mm, and the breath-ability, indicated by gm or just g). The higher the number the better they do their job. So how do you pick the right waterproofing and breath-ability for you? It all depends on your climate. If you are snowboarding in a wet climate like Oregon you should get a snowboard jacket with a minimum of 10,000 waterproofing and breath-ability. A 20,000 waterproofing would be even better. If you are riding in a dry climate, like Colorado, you would be fine with a snowboarding jacket that has only a 5,000 waterproofing. A breath-ability of 3,000 is fine for dry climates.

  2. Step 2

Buying a snowboard jacket that goes with your look is also a very important step. Make sure the go step by step, first select some jackets that fit into your climate in-terms of waterproofing and breath-ability, then narrow your selection down by the compatibility of your jacket with your other snowboarding gear. Jackets come in all different styles, baggy, puffy, tight, slim, loose...all kinds. Go with what looks right for you and your style. Think about how you like to wear your regular clothes. For example if you feel most comfortable in baggy fitting clothes you will probably feel the same about a baggy fitting snowboard jacket.

  3. Step 3

Snowboard Jackets come with a bunch of different features. Some come with powder skirts that will block snow from flying up from underneath when riding powder. If you think you will be riding a lot of untouched powder fields you should get a jacket with a powder skirt. Other jackets come with removable liners. These work really good for extremely cold days. Another nice feature for those warm spring days or for when you over dressed are vents. If you are one who tends to get a little warm on the mountain try getting a jacket with vents. Pass holders, extra pockets, removable hood are all things you might or might not want in a jacket, it comes down to personal preference. As the price of snowboard jackets go up so do the overall quality of the jacket. For example, higher priced jackets will have waterproof zippers and taped seams. Great for wet snow.

  4. Step 4

To summarize start from step one, that is the most important(you don't want to be soaked by your 1st run because you bought a jacket that is not waterproof enough). Step two and three come down to personal preferences, so think about what kind of things you like on your regular clothes and that should help you decided. Also try to put a theme together with you snowboarding gear. It doesn't have to be complex or anything. For example a cool look that will never go out of style is the all black look. Reading a snowboard jacket review is also recommended. Anyway Good Luck and Have Fun!!!
