How to Spend a Girls Day In

A break-up could spark it. Maybe being overworked. Or could it be one-too-many glasses of red wine the night prior? Whether you honestly prefer spending your weekend days on the couch or you have a really really good excuse, spending a Saturday afternoon being lazy isn’t the end of the world. It can actually be just what your best friend-turned-doctor ordered.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A couch, lazy chair or bed
  • A television is suggested, but not required
  • Gossip magazines
  • Snack food, especially chocolate

Step1
Start by sleeping late, maybe until 11:30 a.m. or so. It helps with the laziness factor.
Step2
Wake up, stretch a lot, pass on the shower and head straight to the kitchen to eat cereal. Or move straight to a ham sandwich for an early lunch. Remain in the clothes you slept in, even if they were the same ones you wore the night before.
Step3
Almost immediately, head for a place to recline: couch, patio chair, back to bed, etc. Find anywhere you can lounge in front of a television, preferably. But if gossip magazines are your only form of entertainment for the day, besides eating and sleeping, have those in arms’ reach.
Step4
If you’re lucky enough to have television with cable, turn it on and find Lifetime Television. You’ll get sucked in so fast by movies titled “Hush Little Baby,” “Odd Girl Out” and “An Unexpected Love,” it’s possible the channel will not be changed for the next 8 to 10 hours. It’s also perfectly acceptable to surf the reality programming on MTV, VH1 and TLC.
Step5
Ask a friend or friends to come over and join the lazy fun. This will help you rationalize an entire day spent doing nothing but eating, watching TV and feeling like you should be doing something productive.
Step6
At some point in the day, attempt a mud mask. But if that’s too much work, skip it. Eat chocolate instead.
Step7
Imagine what celebrity would play you in a Lifetime movie. I pick Kellie Martin. Or Molly Shannon.
Step8
Laugh a lot. Laziness plus laughter equals really cheap therapy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be at least somewhat productive on Sunday.
  • Two straight days of laziness can be harmful to your health. Exercise and a healthy dose of vegetables work great.

on 7/11/2008 Very cute! I'd put chocolate before cereal, but that's just me. ;)

on 3/4/2008 I'm feeling "girlish" already! Say, what about a boy's day in ( or is that every day?). Thanks, very amusing.
