A webinar (an online seminar) is a great way to introduce prospects to your product or service. It’s a great way to update and train existing clients. Webinars are a low pressure selling tactic that is low cost and geographically viable.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take a consultative selling approach when organizing your webinar content. Your content should focus on providing a solution that will solve a problem. Anticipate the need or problem of the prospect and their reason for attending your webinar.

  2. Step 2

Consider the timing of your webinar. Morning works best. If your clients live in multiple time zones, keep this in mind.

  3. Step 3

Keep it short. It should not last longer than 60 minutes, 50 minutes to present and 10 minutes for questions. The shorter the better but it should always be informative, educational and worth the viewers time.

  4. Step 4

Determine the host. Hosting your webinar internally is convenient but there are many hosted providers to choose from and most are reasonably priced. Make sure the provider can accommodate shared desktops from multiple locations. Know the amount of callers a hosted service can accommodate and how they handle an overload. Also, request a narrator to greet callers, poll attendees, introduce you and queue questions. Your provider can also manage your prospect list and send invitations and follow-up emails.

  5. Step 5

Make it as interactive as possible. You can mute your callers and have them type a question that all viewers can see at any point in the webinar. At the end of the session, queue all questions and answer them in the order received. Or, a narrator can monitor calls and un-mute callers to ask questions directly during your presentation.

  6. Step 6

Speak clearly and concisely. Although voice over analog on the Internet is quality, it is not as clear as face-to-face. The audience will be turned off it they can’t understand what the presenter is saying.

  7. Step 7

Be consistent with webinar planning and scheduling. A webinar series works best. Schedule a webinar for the same time and frequency. For example, advertise for the third Wednesday each month at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time or whatever time frame works with your schedule. This is convenient for viewers and gives them the opportunity to invite coworkers. You can also record seminars and offer playback.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you go with a hosted webinar provider, know the technical specifications. This may include integration with your software programs, the use of voice over the Internet and platform support.
