Drive Traffic to a Website by Commenting on Blogs

One of the biggest challenges facing Internet businesses as well as brick-and-mortar businesses with an Internet presence is how to drive traffic to their website. Blogs have become the premiere resource for word-of-mouth advertising, and one way of gaining exposure (and visitors) to your site is through placing meaningful comments on popular blogs.

From Quick Guide: Learn to Blog
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your list from Section 1
  • A PC with an Internet connection

    Research the Blogs to Target

  1. Step 1

Navigate to Technorati, and select the category that best fits with your product or service. Another resource for selecting great blogs is Google's Blog search.

  2. Step 2

Review the most popular blogs by rating. Visit each one, and determine the top 100 that represent the best fit with your company's offering. Write them down in a list.

  3. Step 3

Organize your list in priority order, based on popularity and relevance.

  4. Post Comments to Relevant Blogs

  5. Step 1

Visit each blog on your list one-by-one, and find the blog posts that are most relevant to your message. Save each URL either in an organizer such as Blue Organizer, or to your Favorites.

  6. Step 2

Compose comment postings for each one that features elements of the original blog post, but ties in your product or service in the context of the post. Use your Organizer to quickly navigate between the relevant blog posts chosen in Step 1.

  7. Step 3

Include a link back to your website at the end of each comment, with your full signature.

  8. Step 4

Keep a written record of each blog you have commented on, so you will recognize the author if she contacts you directly for further discussion.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that each comment is unique, targeted, and draws upon the conversation at hand.
  • Be complimentary of the blogger--he is your host on the blog.
  • Be sure that your comment adds value to the discussion in some way, and is not just a blatant product pitch.
  • Don't just post links, these get deleted as spam.
  • Don't change the subject, this is considered rude.
