How to Make a Bunny Box

Is your bunny chewing your furniture, digging up your carpet, and scratching at your floors? A bunny box might just be the answer! In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a simple toy for your rabbit that will keep her or him stimulated, occupied, and happy for many, many days.

Things You’ll Need:

• cardboard box
• scissors or an exacto knife
• old phone book
• other paper supplies

1. First, remove any staples, pieces of tape, and/or other non-cardboard features (stickers, etc.) from your cardboard box.
2. Second, use the "tucking" method to close all sides of the box except for one. Do this by bending down the right corner on each of the 4 flaps on one side of the box. Then, take two adjacent flaps and start to close them, making sure that a bent flap is headed under the non-bent side of the other flap. Next, before totally pressing the 2 flaps closed, bring the other two in, pushing each bent flap under the unbent side of its adjacent flap.
3. With all sides closed except for one, dump all of your random paper items into the box.
4. Finally, close the box using the tucking method, and cut a few holes in it. One on the front and one on the side is what my bunnies like best. They want to feel safe, but they also always want a few ways out.

Tips & Warnings

• Try making a bunny box with the help of your bunny friend. When I make a bunny box, one of my bunnies loves to sit near me and rip up scraps of cardboard. After she's done, I put the ripped scraps inside of the box.
• Make sure that everything in your box is chewable and non-toxic to rabbits. If you suspect that your rabbit actually eats (swallows) paper and cardboard, as opposed to just chewing it, do not give your bunny a bunny box.
