How to Ween a Puppy

Weening a puppy doesn't have to be a messy, time consuming progression of frustration. It can be as simple as just a few simple steps.

Things You’ll Need:

• Cage or carrying case.

1. The best weening method is to place the puppy in a carrying case or a cage appropriate for the dog's size.
2. Place the puppy in the cage or carrying case in the evening when you are going to bed. Don't go down and get the puppy when it begins to cry; this will only make matters worse. After a little while the puppy will stop crying and go to sleep.
3. In the morning open the door closest to the carry case and take the puppy right outside so that it can do its business outside.
4. Try to remember to say "out, out," when helping the puppy to get out the door. This will reinforce the command in the puppy's mind.
5. Performs steps 2 through 4 every day and you will find the puppy reacting very well to the routine.
