How to be safe in Central Park

Central Park is mainly a safe and fun place. But every location can't be a 100% safe. As a result, you must follow certain tips to maximize your security and enjoy the Park to the fullest

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Tourist Map

Step1
Know your surroundings- Walking around aimlessly and with a lost expression in your face is an invitation for trouble. Obtain a map at your hotel or at some of the information kiosks located inside the Park, that way you'll be informed and have no need to approach strangers that may harm you.
Step2
Beware of friendly strangers- Be vigilant about who is around you. Pickpockets and thugs in sheep clothing are looking for opportunities to scam you. And they come in all shapes and sizes.
Step3
Watch your property- Do not leave your property (cameras, bags, etc.) unattended anywhere, even when you are next to it. Someone may distract you while someone else swipes the property. And if you hide the item somewhere, you never know who is watching.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need the police, try to find a yellow emergency phone or find one of the main roads and call for help.
  • Light poles on the main drives are enumerated. W, C or E stands for West,Cross, Center or East Drives and the top two digits represent the street number. ex. 05 = 105 street.
  • Be accompanied after dark and avoid areas like The Rambles and The North Woods.
