Things You'll Need:
- Supermarket club membership
-
Step 1
Eat at home more often. You can feed many more people than when eating out.
-
Step 2
Check newspaper supplements. Sunday newspapers generally have sales specials for local grocery stores such as Vons and Ralphs.
-
Step 3
Use the store's club card. Discounts are available on many items with it.
-
Step 4
Buy in bulk. Toilet paper doesn't go bad. Large boxes of cereal are much more economical.
-
Step 5
Use coupons, especially at stores that double their value.
-
Step 6
Check clearance racks in the supermarkets.
-
Step 7
Shop at smaller market chains and nontraditional stores, such as Value+ Market, Jons, Food 4 Less, the 99 Cent Store, Trader Joe's and ethnic markets.
-
Step 8
Get day-old bagels from Western Bagel: 6 for $1.
