Weekends are a time for relaxation, reflection and indulgence in the things that give you the most pleasure. It can also provide some much-needed balance to the week's routine. Follow these tips to get the most out of it!
Sleep in. Breaking the working week habit of getting up early can be daunting but very rewarding. Shut off the alarm clock. Make an effort to enjoy the time before rising. Indulge in a good book or watch some morning television. The more frivolous, the better.
Step2
Put the diet on hold. If necessary, step up the regimen during the weekdays so you'll be able to dive into that plate of French toast with a clear conscience. And before you panic, remember that rewarding yourself when on a diet is crucial for maintaining it over the long haul.
Step3
Are you a social butterfly or a hermit-in-training? Whatever your natural inclination, reverse it on weekends. If you love to hang out with friends, take a long walk or read some trashy magazines in a cafe. If you're a loner, call up some buddies and hit a spot for brunch, or catch that action movie you'd be too embarrassed to watch alone.
Step4
Ease up on the grooming. There'll be plenty of time come Monday to shave or blow-dry your hair. No need to waste the weekends primping.
Step5
Wear comfortable clothes. Jogging pants, old sneakers, that windbreaker from the late 80s--it's all good. A relaxation of the dress code is universally accepted on weekends. Embrace it.
Step6
Try new things. Give yourself the right to indulge interests beyond work and necessity. Take that improv or painting class. Or maybe just hang out in the park and do nothing but take in the great outdoors. Enjoying life's extras not only brings pleasure but also releases some of the tension that comes with the daily grind.
