How to Make Chocolate Bread

Chocolate Bread is a variation of a simple sugar-based loaf, and it's a perfect treat for any chocoholic in the family. It can be made in a bread machine and served at brunch or just as a snack. Enjoy it on its own, or with a spoonful of Nutella or chocolate spread for even more chocolate indulgence. Here's how to make fresh chocolate bread in a few easy steps!

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bread machine
  • 2½ tsp. dry yeast
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup fresh butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup 2% milk, at room temperature

Step1
Prepare the bread machine. Set the bread machine to the basic "white loaf" setting.
Step2
Add ingredients. Add the yeast, flour, sugar, cocoa, egg, butter, vanilla and milk in that order.
Step3
Mix the dough. Leave the bread machine to mix the dough with the timer.
Step4
Remove the dough from the bread machine and shape and set into a loaf pan.
Step5
Let the dough rise for at least 40-50 minutes until it doubles in size.
Step6
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Step7
Bake bread for 20-25 minutes until firm.
Step8
Leave to cool. Bread must be cooled at least 30 minutes before serving.
Step9
Cut into slices and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings

  • Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa is a great choice for this recipe.
  • Don't substitute baking chocolate for cocoa, because you won't achieve the right texture.
