Surf and Turf dinners are a common meal in steakhouse, seafood and gourmet restaurants. For a fraction of the cost of a single dinner, cooks can make a fantastic steak and seafood meal at home in very little time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 Large Baking Potatoes
  • 2 Steaks of your choice
  • 1 Pound Shrimp, peeled and cleaned
  • 1 Onion
  • 1/2 Pounds Button Mushrooms
  • 1 Green Pepper
  • 1 Garlic Clove
  • Soy sauce and spices of your choice
  • Olive Oil
  • 2 skillets
  • Microwave

Step1
Marinate the steaks in soy sauce and the spices of your choice for an hour or more. Pepper works well, as does mustard, horseradish, and lemon pepper.
Step2
Slice and chop vegetables and set aside in a bowl.
Step3
Place the potatoes in the microwave and begin the cooking process.
Step4
Use one of the skillets to melt 2 –3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. When melted, add vegetables and begin sautéing until tender. Stir often.
Step5
Take the other skillet and add 2 – 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Heat over medium high heat until the oil glistens. Remove steaks from marinade and sear on both sides. Turn down heat, and cook until desired doneness. Remove steaks from pan and place on a plate to rest.
Step6
Add shrimp to the skillet and cook until pink and done.
Step7
Remove potatoes from microwave. Place all on a serving platter or individual plates and serve.

Tips & Warnings

  • Although the steaks need to be marinated this can be done the night before and refrigerated until needed.
  • Scallops, crab or lobster meat can be substituted for the shrimp. Venison can be substituted for the steaks.
  • You can purchase the shrimp already peeled or peel and clean them yourself.
