Things You'll Need:
- Notebook and pen
- Store and mail-order catalogs
-
Step 1
Figure out what your total gift budget will be for the holidays.
-
Step 2
Make a list of everyone you need to shop for.
-
Step 3
Divide your budget by the number of people you need to shop for. This is the amount you can spend on each person on your list.
-
Step 4
Set up one page in your notebook for everyone on your list. Write their name, amount you can spend, gift ideas and their interests (to inspire more gift ideas).
-
Step 5
Look through store and mail-order catalogs, or on the Internet, for gift ideas for each person and write them on their page.
-
Step 6
Research the cost of each gift and where to buy them. Write the price and store next to each item on your recipients’ pages.
-
Step 7
Decide which gifts you will purchase for each person from the listed items, making sure not to exceed the maximum amount you have available to spend on each person. Remember to include shipping and handling costs that may apply to mail-ordered gifts.
-
Step 8
When your final lists are complete, make a list with each store or mail-order catalog you need to shop from. Write the items you need to purchase from each store or catalog.
-
Step 9
Place your mail-orders in time for holiday delivery. Catalogs should provide a deadline for ordering in time for the holidays.
-
Step 10
Bring your lists to each store you need to purchase gifts from and buy all of the gifts on the list the same day. This way, you won’t have to go to the same store over and over.
-
Step 11
When the gifts have all been ordered and purchased, separate them into piles for each person to make wrapping and labeling easy.
-
Step 12
Remember to enjoy the wonderful gift of giving.
