And, to write about a genre dealing with love and romance, as well as a subject we find taboo with our moms—sex. But, hey, most of us, at one time or another in our lives, fall in love, get married and have sex. So if you both love the romance genre and have a wonderful story swirling around in your heads, give it a try.

1. Come up with a great story idea.

2. Set aside family ties and become business partners during work hours.

3. Keep an open mind and be willing to listen to each other as equals. This is especially important for Mom, as it might be difficult at first to have her daughter usurp her.

4. Decide who's best at research, characterization, dialogue, plot, narrative and so forth. You'll be pleasantly surprised that when you discover each other's writing strengths and designate accordingly, your styles will blend and become one unique voice.
