The biggest challenge most beginning actors face is memorizing their lines. Many beginning actors fear that they will not do well in their first scene because they may forget their lines. But focusing on remembering your lines can be a liability because it prevents you from pulling from those emotions that will make you a good actor.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Script
  • Concentration
  • Patience
  1. Step 1

Read your script over and over in a monotone voice. Don’t try to put any personality or character in the lines you’re reading. Just read them like you would read directions to a how-to manual until the words are ingrained in your head like the Pledge of Allegiance. Most Americans can easily recite the Pledge of Allegiance by heart because they have been saying it since kindergarten. So much so that you could probably say the pledge in any type of voice you choose because you’re not worrying about remembering the words to the pledge. Treat your lines the same way.

  2. Step 2

Continuously recite your lines in a monotone voice at least 20 times in a row non-stop each day until you no longer have to pause to remember them.

  3. Step 3

Once you can recite each line in your scene or scenes without pausing to remember them, begin to recite your lines with the voice that gives life and personality to your character. Once you get to this point your only worry should be how to play your part convincingly.
