The swimsuit for a beauty pageant should be a one or two piece solid color suit. Prints tend to distort your figure. Which ever color you choose, it needs to compliment your complexion.

The style should flatter your figure and be in good taste. The bra should provide support in the bust area, but should not be too revealing. Make sure your swimsuit is lined or that it will not be too revealing under stage lights.

The cut of the swimsuit is also very important; it should not rest low on your body but rather be higher in your hip bone. Make sure your swimsuit covers your entire buttocks, but it does not look like a diaper. French cuts and thongs are strongly disfavored.

The shoes must be clear or a color closet to your skin tone. A classic pump is best, avoid wedges, clogs or flip-flops they make your legs look distorted and may cause you to walk uncomfortably. The height of the heel should be at least 2 inches.

Jewelry can be very distracting for this type of competition. You can use a small pair of earrings, stud type or small hoops. Do not wear any hats or sun glasses on stage with your swimsuit.

    Tips & Warnings

    • When it comes to heels the higher the better, but make sure you can walk comfortably and naturally. Heels as high as 4 inches or higher are commonly used for international, national and other very competitive pageants.

    • Don't choose black because it is slimming. Most judges respond negatively to black swimsuits.

    • Be careful of white swimsuits. White fabrics when exposed to stage lights can be very revealing.

    • Avoid using baby oil on your body. Baby oil makes you look heavier on stage because the stage lights will reflect off you in an unnatural way. Use body lotion instead.
