How to Make Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potato fries are showing up on menus at a number of restaurants. Even those who aren't normally fans of sweet potatoes are finding the seasoned side dish appealing. Baked sweet potatoes are high in fiber, vitamins A and C, and potassium -- but your kids don't have to know how healthy they are. Give them a creative name, or just call them fries, and watch as reluctant veggie-eaters are won over by the sweet taste. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Cooking spray or olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Garlic powder

Instructions

      Heat oven to 450 F. Wash the sweet potatoes and slice into long spears.

      Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray or pour on a little olive oil.

      Arrange the fries in a single layer on the oiled pan. Spritz on more cooking spray or brush on a little more olive oil. Sprinkle on garlic powder, salt and pepper.

      Cook for 20 minutes, turning partway through so they cook evenly. Thin-cut fries may cook faster, so keep eye on them to avoid burning. Thick fries may need a few extra minutes in the oven.

Tips & Warnings

  • Watch your fries during the last 15 minutes. Fries cut too thin will burn.
