How to Prepare for a Non-Profit Board Meeting
According to Merriam-Webster, a nonprofit is defined as, "not conducted or maintained for the purpose of making a profit." A meeting with the board members of a nonprofit agency may be a daunting task, but with adequate preparation you can present your ideas in a concise and professional manner.

1
Obtain the agenda for the meeting. Peruse it and determine the amount of time you will have to address the board.
-
2
Research any pertinent information regarding the nonprofit. Read the organization's website regarding it's purpose, mission statement and budget information. Doing so avoids presenting useless information to board members during the meeting. It also shows you are a credible presenter and researched the agency prior to the meeting.

Prepare at least one visual aid to present during the meeting that showcases your idea. For example, if you are suggesting a new fundraiser to the board, create a poster with all crucial information for your idea including photographs of the venue and ideas for decorations. Use a computer spreadsheet program to create any applicable charts and graphs to enhance the professional look of your display.
-
4
Wear a professional outfit when you address the board. Depending on the type of nonprofit, you may choose a more formal or casual look. Regardless, the outfit should be clean and not revealing. A man might choose a tie or sport coat, while a woman might wear dress pants or a skirt.
-
5
Practice your presentation for at least one person prior to the board meeting. Ask for any suggestions on how to improve the delivery. If this is not possible, practice in front of a mirror and pay attention to your eye contact and facial expressions.
