The job market hasn’t had too much of a need for a web designer who is also an accountant. The two skill sets don’t cross paths too often. There is, however, a need from time to time to import spreadsheet data into a website. This may be a foreign process for those with no history with various spreadsheet applications. Importing spreadsheets in Dreamweaver CS3 can be done in 6 steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Create the file in a format that is accessible in Dreamweaver. This means the spreadsheet must be saved in a delimited format. For most users, saving the file in CSV format is the easiest way to do this. In Excel, for example, there is a format option when saving a file with a drop down box that allows the user to choose CSV.
Step2
Choose File, Import and Tabular Data in a new or existing file in Dreamweaver. The user will be asked to enter the name of the file desired for import. Make sure the name has the application extension such as .xls for Excel files. If the file was saved as a CSV, use the pull down arrow in the delimiter field to find Comma. Other options will include Tab, Semicolon and Other.
Step3
Set the table width. The easiest way to do this is to select Fit To Data. The user may need to go back later and change this option to set if the desired sized is not achieved.
Step4
Format the header row. Most users will want the top row of the spreadsheet to stand out. Do this by selecting the Bold or Italic option in the Format top row field.
Step5
Determine if borders, cell padding and cell spacing are desired. If so, select these options in each field. If they are not desired, set them to zero.
Step6
Select OK.
