Tear stains are unsightly and all too common, especially in small breeds such as toy poodles, cavalier king charles spaniels, brichons, etc.

There are many commercially available products available on the market today but they can be costly and a gamble as to which is the most effective. This is a method used by those who breed and show these lovely dogs. When you are showing dogs, you can not allow tear stains.

If you've ever wondered what many of the dog show handlers use to keep those dogs at Westminster and Crufts looking so wonderful and tear stain free, read on.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Mix equal parts boric powder, talcum powder and the milk of magnesia. Mix well.

  2. Step 2

To this, add a few drops of the peroxide and mix again.

  3. Step 3

Apply paste to the area of the face where your dog suffers from tear stains. A toothbrush works really well for this. Work gently and slowly to prevent getting this mixture into your dogs eyes.

  4. Step 4

Allow mixture to dry. This should take only 10 minutes or so.

  5. Step 5

Brush off the tear stain removal substance with the toothbrush after you've cleaned it well. Shampoo dog with a whitening shampoo once you have finished for a thorough job.

Tips & Warnings
  • Give dog 1 tsp apple cider vinegar daily to prevent future staining
  • Rub a tad of Vaseline to the areas that tend to be affected by tear staining. This will allow you to easily wipe off the area before it can have a chance to do future staining damage.
  • DO NOT ALLOW this mixture to get into your dog's eyes.
