Replacing a light socket

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • screwdriver, new wire nuts, electrical tape, wire stripper
  1. Step 1

    First make sure power is off

  2. Step 2

    Remove the fixture from ceiling. make certain to acknowledge which wire is common, meaning the wire that has more than one wire attached to it usually white another term for common is neutral

  3. Step 3

    Remove the fasteners that hold the socket to the fixture and bring socket to nearest electrical supply store or home center

  4. Step 4

    Install new socket on fixture and reinstall fixture make certain to cut all wiring and strip wire approximately 1 inch to show bare wire

  5. Step 5

    Put all black wires together holding wires in one hand and screwing wire nut on all wires so they twist together tightly. Do not twist them together first

  6. Step 6

    Tape over wire nut and wiring to give a air tight bond

  7. Step 7

    Proceed with the other wires the same way

  8. Step 8

    Install fixture to ceiling and turn power back on
