Things You'll Need:
- Safety-proofing supplies
- Kid-friendly foods and drinks
- Night lights
-
Step 1
Safety-proof. Take a walk around the house to identify potential safety hazards (exposed electrical outlets, blinds with cords, medicines and cleaners that aren't stowed out of reach). Then, correct any problems that you've found.
-
Step 2
Plug in a night light in the room that he'll be sleeping in and another one in the bathroom. It'll help to soothe concerns about sleeping in an unfamiliar house.
-
Step 3
Hide the breakables. Take an inventory of the items that you have out on tables and shelves. If there's something that you'd be upset to see broken, stash it away. It's best not to tempt fate.
-
Step 4
Buy kid-friendly foods and drinks. Apple juice, milk, fruit, yogurt and animal cookies will win points with most kids.
-
Step 5
Pick up a small welcome gift. A coloring book and crayons, a puzzle or a book will help to keep your guest busy and show her that she's welcome.
