Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Warm clothes
- Cash
- Sun Block
- Camera
Step1
You must book early. Don’t wait till the end of December, as everything will be sold out.
Step2
If you like a lot of people plan your trip Opening Weekend. If you want to go when it is not as busy go the 2nd half of the Festival. During the 2nd half you can go to the Closing Weekend presentation and have more of a chance to see the films.
Step3
It is very cold at Park City and temperatures range from 12 degrees to 33 degrees F. A good pair of snow boots is necessary that are broken in as you will need to be able to walk, as there is not much parking. Add gloves and a warm hat. Dress in layers and you will be going in and out of buildings and the temperature will be colder in the mornings and evenings.
Step4
The altitude at Park City is higher at 6800 to 10000 feet above sea level. The air is thin, so pace your self. It may take you a day or two to get acclimatized. Drinking water helps and drinking it before you get there will give you a head start.
Step5
Tickets to films are around $15.00 and only $10.00 if you purchase day of show tickets at the Main Box Office or in the Wait List lines. So, plan that expense into your budget.
Step6
If everything is booked in Park City then get lodging in Salt Lake City. You can avoid the crowds and the motels are cheaper. Plus, many festival films also screen in Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City is a 45-minute drive from Park City, and is closer to the airport. Also, don’t forget lodging in alternate towns in the area like Provo, Sundance Village or Ogden.
Step7
Other than warm clothes, don’t forget your camera, skis or snowboard, and sun block.

on 6/30/2008 Great article. We advertise in Park City Magazine & love Park City. I would add that you will see lots of movie stars. Try not to gawk or rush them for autographs.Park city is laid back- maintain that attitude.
