Things You'll Need:
- Cleaning supplies
- Storage containers
- Markers
- Music
-
Step 1
In order to organize your home the most effective way you need to start with one room. Depending on how unorganized your home is and how many belongings you have to go through, do not plan to accomplish everyting in a short time!
-
Step 2
Once you pick a room it might be easier to make a list of what you want to do in it. Supposed your closet is overflowing with clothing, shoes and who knows what else. On your bedroom to-do list write down "organize closet."
-
Step 3
Continue your list until you have walked through each and every room of your home with what you want to do. Looking at your list, it may seem overwhelming but remember it will all be worth the time and effort.
-
Step 4
Consider playing your favorite music while organizing your home. This has always been a booster for me to keep going and get it all done.
-
Step 5
When you start organizing each room, you can also do a sort of spring cleaning. Get rid of items you no longer use or want and donate them if possible. Otherwise take them out with the trash!
-
Step 6
Once you have eliminated on the things you no longer need and put everything else in its own special place, you will have an organized house.
-
Step 7
The strategy to keeping it this way is to always put something exactly where it belongs when you are done with it. With children, I have found it easier to clean up when they go to bed. This way you wake up to a clean and organized home every morning.
-
Step 8
Try to plan on doing this every season or at least once a year if possible. It's hard to stick with plans and we can't always control how messy our home gets.
-
Step 9
If you find you don't have room for certain items that you don't necessarily use every day but will eventually use, store them in a container and label the container. Then put the container in the garage or storage shed for later use.

on 5/10/2008 Thanks for the tips. Once you're in the mindset to do this, the easier it is.
