Step1
Contact your city or the local department that organizes recycling pick-up in your area.
Step2
Ask if the recycling program has been updated. Sometimes new items and materials can be recycled. Also ask if items need to be separated, some communities allow residents to place everything together.
Step3
Write down all the things and materials that can be placed in the recycle bin.
Step4
Organize list my material and type.
Example: Under the heading Boxboard include; Cereal Box, Toothpaste Boxes, Soda Boxes, Tissue Paper Boxes, Bar Soap Boxes and Paper Towel Centers.
Step5
Attach each list to it's corresponding bin.
Step6
Make sure each family member knows what can go in the recycle bin. Also let members of the family know if they need to remove plastic from boxboard or any other items that may need special attention before recycling.
Step7
Contact garbage hauler to reduce the size of the garbage container that they currently pick-up from your residence. This is when you save some money.

Tips & Warnings

  • Leave room at the bottom of each list placed on the recycle bin. Add items to the list when you find things in the garbage that can be placed in the recycle bin.
