The days of Internet Explorer being everyone’s browser of choice are over. The free, open source Firefox browser has taken the Internet by storm and is winning over many web surfers with its flexibility and ease of use. Those who do a lot of research online are particularly well served by Firefox. It has a number of features that make finding information quicker and easier. By using its standard features to the fullest and downloading extensions for your specific purposes, you can make your web research experience pleasant and hassle-free.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Firefox web browser

Step1
Take advantage of the opportunity to set multiple home pages. If you use several pages on a regular basis, you can set Firefox to open each one in a different tab when it starts. Simply open each page in a tab, go to the Tools menu, then select Options and Main. Then click the “Use Current Pages” button under Home Page.
Step2
Download the Linky extension. Linky allows you to open multiple links from a page by highlighting them and using the right-click menu. This is good when you need to view several search results from the same page. See the Resources section for the download link.
Step3
Download the latest version of the Google Toolbar. Its search function makes it easy to search for images, videos and more without navigating to different pages. Many other popular searchable sites also have custom search buttons available for added convenience.
Step4
Familiarize yourself with Firefox’s helpful built-in features. For example, there is a “Recently Closed Tabs” option in the History menu that can help you find prematurely closed pages. You can also save pages that you often use simultaneously in a Bookmarks folder and use the “Open All in Tabs” option to open them together.
Step5
Search Mozilla’s extensions library for extensions that will enhance your browsing experience. New ones are created frequently, so if you don’t find what you’re looking for, keep checking back.
