The sound of the ocean is a wonderful place to visit and see in your mind!

When most people hear the term hypnosis, they instantly think of something magical and mystical. Do you suffer from stress, anxiety, or low self-esteem? Self-hypnosis is a wonderful medium to use to overcome whatever negative thoughts and situations you are facing. You will learn how to hypnotise yourself in order to relax and create better outcomes, expectancies and thinking through visualization and re-training of your mind. It's simple, relaxing and just a few minutes away.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A quiet place where you can stretch out and not be disturbed.
  • If you like soft music or "sounds of nature" you might want to use a stereo/CD.
  1. Step 1

Find a quiet place in your home, office or outside where it is quiet and you won't be disturbed. Sit down and get yourself as comfortable as possible. Make sure not to cross your legs (they should be stretched out)or your arms (extended at your sides).

  2. Step 2

Close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths, holding each breath for at least 10 seconds before slowly exhaling. Begin focusing on the sound of your breathing and observe the relaxed sensations of your body.

  3. Step 3

As you consider focussing on your breathing, continue to focus and pay greater attention to how warm and heavy your body is beginning to feel.

  4. Step 4

In your mind, you are to transport yourself to a place which brings you the greatest sense of peace, relaxation and pleasure. Get into that place and experience it with all senses; sight, touch, sound, smell and taste. Savor the experience as if it were happening for real!

  5. Step 5

You will now engage in progressive muscle relaxation. It's easy! You will focus on every body part starting with your head and working your way down to your toes. What's important is you will name each body part in your mind, focus on it getting heavier, more relaxed and the stress leaving each area.

  6. Step 6

Starting with your eyelids, feel them getting heavier and heavier and more relaxed. Feel ever muscle and wrinkle in your face and forehead becoming relaxed. Move down to your neck muscles, shoulders and upper back and feel the relaxation sweeping your stress away. You will do this all the way down paying attention to lower back, tummy, buttox, upper legs, calves, feet and toes.

  7. Step 7

Now that your body is totally relaxed, you will leave your place of sanctuary and move to the top of a staircase. There are 10 steps. See yourself standing at the top of the stairs. The stairs are covered in
    your favorite color.

  8. Step 8

You will now start to transcend the stairs counting each one out in your mind one at a time. With each step, feel yourself becoming deeper relaxed. Your entire body, including your eyelids are extremely
heavy. You wouldn't even want to try to move or open your eyes as this moment feels so amazing.

  9. Step 9

When you get to the last step, you will count out zero when you touch the floor. This is your place of deep hypnosis. You will only focus on what you want and use positive words and terms to tell the unconscious mind what you desire. Visualize yourself as having what you want in this state as it impresses itself on the unconscious mind more powerfully. Really feel yourself in the moment.

  10. Step 10

Once you have relaxed yourself and impressed your intentions on the unconscious mind, slowly come out of your trance state. Count to 5, becoming more aware and alert. At 5, you will feel relaxed, refreshed and energized!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you have at least a half an hour to an hour to engage in this activity when you are first learning it.
  • As you become more proficient in this activity, you can cut it down to 10-15 minutes as well as using it in stressful situations.
  • Its best not to do this exercise on a bed in your bedroom as you run the risk of getting too relaxed and falling asleep.
  • Try to avoid consuming caffeine or alcohol beverages before and during the self-hypnosis experience.
