Ridding your pets of fleas is an easy task with so many shampoos, sprays and collars on the market, but ridding your home of the same pests can be a lot more difficult.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • vacuum cleaner
  • carpet powder for fleas
  • flea bombs

Step1
The first thing to do with a major flea infestation is to set off flea bombs to rid the majority of the infestation. These can be found easily at just about any store with a pet section. Make sure you have time to stay out of the house for several hours when setting off the fogger and by no means leave your pet inside either.
Step2
Next, do some more detailed exterminating. Shampoo all the carpets in the house as well as upholstery if possible. The hot water used in shampooing and steam cleaning kills any flea eggs remaining because they can not with stand the heat.
Step3
Next, have your pets bedding dry cleaned to rid any fleas since this would be a prominent area for fleas to breed and live.
Step4
Now dust your carpets with a borax powder or use a flea spray to halt the fleas growth cycles and prevent new hatching.
Step5
Repeat this process again in 90 days to get any newly hatched eggs the first regiment may have missed to prevent reinfestation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not assume one treatment has rid your home of fleas. They are a very hard pest to battle and often times repeated treatment over a 12 month period is the only way to completely rid your home of the infestation.
