It's not always easy to be a house guest, traipsing through someone else's home and digging through someone else's fridge. Here are things that you can do to make your home a bit more house guest-friendly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Magazines/books
  • Trial-size toiletries
  • Snacks
  • Drinks
  • Night lights
  • Extra blankets and pillows
  • Extra towels
  • An alarm clock
  • A spare phone
  • Flowers
  • A welcome gift
  1. Step 1

Stock the fridge and pantry with ready-to-go (and easy to find) snacks and drinks.

  2. Step 2

Place trial-size toiletries in the guest bathroom (or the bathroom that your guest will be using).

  3. Step 3

Place books and magazines next to the guest bed.

  4. Step 4

Put night lights in the hallway and bathroom to make it easier for your guest to maneuver around your home after dark.

  5. Step 5

Leave an extra blanket and pillows in the guest room.

  6. Step 6

Place extra towels, and perhaps even a robe, in the bathroom.

  7. Step 7

Stick an alarm clock on the night stand in your guest room.

  8. Step 8

Clear out a dresser drawer and some closet space. Don't forget to include a handful of hangers!

  9. Step 9

Include a phone in the guest room, if you have a spare. Privacy is always appreciated.

  10. Step 10

Spruce up your guest quarters with a flower arrangement or a nice scented candle.

  11. Step 11

Clear space for a suitcase. A dresser top will do.

  12. Step 12

Surprise guests with a welcome gift. A bit of chocolate, a sampling of local items or a travel book for the area is sure to be appreciated.

Tips & Warnings
  • Show your guest around your home when he arrives. Remember to show him where you keep the silverware, plates and cups.
  • Encourage your guest to grab food or a drink whenever she wants something.
  • Don't feel you have to keep your guest entertained every moment of his stay--guests like alone time too.
