If you love that smoky, cloudy blended eye shadow look but are not sure exactly how to achieve it read on for a great trick.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean mascara wand
  • Eyeshadow
  • Clean surface or tissue
  • Eyeshadow brush
  1. Step 1

Blending is the key to making your eyes look their absolute best when applying shadow. You can either apply many different colors directly to your eye and then blend or you can blend shadows first and then apply the color. The first step to achieving this look is to pick out the color shades that you will look best in. A good rule of thumb is for brown eyes to pick blue, gray or green, blue eyes to pick brown or purple and green eyes to pick blue or brown. Picking a color that is contrasting to your eye will make your eyes pop and stand out more.

  2. Step 2

Once you have decided on the shadow colors that you wish to apply you will need to do a bit of scraping. Think of yourself as a painter and your eye lids as your canvas. Your eye shadows are your palette. Lay a clean tissue down on a flat clean surface. Take a clean mascara wand and gently run it along the surface of the eye shadow. The bristles of the mascara wand will take up some of the shadow pigment. Then drop the pigment particles onto the tissue.

  3. Step 3

You will scrape at least two shades into a pile on the tissue. What you are left with is a multi-tonal color you will apply to your eye. You can pick up the pigment from the tissue with a clean make up brush. If you want the color to be very sheer then use the brush dry and if you want the color to be very dark then use the brush wet.

  4. Step 4

Once you become better at the art of eye shadow scraping you can begin to experiment with color. If you want to make your eyes look larger then you may want to mix a light shade with gold to apply to the inner corner of the eye and a dark shade with the same gold to apply to the outer corners. There is no end to the options you will have when you begin to think like a painter and create beautiful eyes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dust a bit of loose powder under the eye to catch any fallen pigment particles from the eye shadow application. When you are done applying the shadow you can then just brush the extra shadow off of your face.
