How to Crochet a Basic Tunisian Crochet
Tunisian crochet is a craft technique, also known as Afghan stitch, that combines aspects of crocheting and knitting and is performed with a long hook that has a stopper on one end. You can use any size hook and type of yarn to master the foundation row and simple stitch -- the basics of Tunisian crochet.
Instructions
-
-
1
Crochet a foundation row of 10 chains.
-
2
Repeat for the further nine chains on the hook. Do not turn your work when you reach the end of the row.
-
-
3
Crochet the second half of the row by working a yarn over and pull through the first loop on the hook. Work a yarn over and then pull through two loops.
-
4
Repeat across the row until you have one loop left on the hook. Do not turn your work.
-
5
Crochet the first half the second row by skipping the first stitch. Insert the hook under the single vertical bar of the second stitch, from right to left. Work a yarn over and pull through the hook. Keep the loop on the hook.
-
6
Repeat across the row and do not turn your work once you reach the end.
-
7
Crochet the second half of the second row by repeating steps 6 and 7.
-
8
Continue working in Tunisian simple stitch or break the yarn, thread through the last stitch of your work and tie a knot to secure.
