When it comes to upgrading your computer, sometimes a little knowledge goes a long way.

From Quick Guide: Your Desktop Computer and You
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure you know what part you are looking for, before you start a search. This may sound funny, but its very important to know. Since there are usually ten to fifteen different choices for computer parts. Just going out with the idea that you would like to update and not have a specific part in mind, might overwhelm you.

  2. Step 2

Once you have the part picked out, make sure it is compatible with your system. Most people think a part will work and then it doesn't, and you are left with a good part and no place to use it.

  3. Step 3

Make certain that part is OEM, Original Electronics Manufacturing. This means the original manufacturer is producing the item, not some knock-off from a small company. OEM items are put through rigorous testing and quality control steps before being released on the market.
