Cut Foam for Sewing Projects

If you have ever tried to make your own cushions you know how difficult cutting foam can be. The following tips take all the guess work out of cutting foam.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Marker
  • Ruler
  • Electric Knife
  1. Step 1

Using a ruler draw a line where you want to cut. If it will not show through your fabric a permanent marker works great.

  2. Step 2

Place your foam piece on a table and using your electric knife start on one corner and slice just like you were cutting bread.

  3. Step 3

When you reach the bottom allow your knife to rest of the table or counter top and slowly pull towards you to complete your cut. Now you have a nice clean cut piece of foam!

on 8/15/2009 I purchased mine at Joann's Fabric. Most fabric stores carry foam in different thicknesses. Good luck!

on 8/15/2009 Nice tip. Can you point me to where you got that foam? I've been looking for foam like that to make a pelican type case out of an old hard suitcase for camera gear.

TIA
