How to Cut Foam for Sewing Projects
Making your own chair cushions is a good project for do-it-yourselfers with basic sewing skills. But cutting the thick foam needed for these cushions can be a challenge if you have never done it before. The trick is to use an electric kitchen knife. Be sure to thoroughly clean the knife before using it on food again.

Use a ruler as a straight edge and draw a line where you want to cut. If it will not show through your fabric, use a permanent marker.

Place your foam piece on a cutting surface. Place the electric knife on the far edge of the foam and slice just like you were cutting bread.

Rest your knife on the table or counter top when your reach the bottom of the foam. Slowly pull towards you to complete your cut.

Tips & Warnings
Spraying the blade with spray cooking oil might make cutting easier.
