Things You'll Need:
- Access to computer, home or public library
- Larger (or medium)sized teaching hospital facility in your area.
- A PROACTIVE attitude!
- Determination
-
Step 1
Research larger teaching health facilities which usually run a number of trials (diabetes, lung diseases, etc).
If you fit the profile for a trial, you may receive physical examinations, check-ups, and a health assessment for free! -
Step 2
Always ask your nurse (RN) or Physician to explain your treatments, condition, and medications to your understanding.
-
Step 3
Use the internet to research your condition, the available treatments, alternative treatments, and the best facilities for care. Also, prepare a list of questions you should ask a RN or doctor.
-
Step 4
Be PROACTIVE in maintaining your health. Which again means informing yourself about your body, and getting the necessary information from health care professionals.
-
Step 5
Remember that RN's and Doctors essentially work for you! If you do not like or appreciate the way you are being treated, take your business elsewhere. Or better yet, initiate a complaint with the facility's ombudsmen.
