Writing a press release is a great way to gain publicity for your product or service. But it’s not unusual to forget that the true purpose of the press release is to catch the attention of the press. When you write a press release for the press your chances of getting published are greatly increased.

  1. Step 1

    A press release lets you release newsworthy information to members of the media press will publish so the general public will get the news. Keep in mind that the press release must gain the attention of the media first in order to get published.

  2. Step 2

    Present the newsworthy angle of your product or service when your write the press release so you can gain the attention of the press, not just the attention of the consumer or end user of your product or service.

  3. Step 3

    Start the press release in a way that makes it stand out in from the thousands of other press releases sent to the media everyday. Do this by using an unusual fact, illustration or unique benefit to catch the attention of the media reader.

  4. Step 4

    Highlight the major benefits of your product or service so the press release will still catch the attention of the end user. Always include the important facts of who will do what, where it will happen and why, how it will get done and when this event or thing will occur. A press release shouldn’t be dull; use colorful writing to catch the attention of a bored press professional.

  5. Step 5

    Place your contact information at the top of the press release so it is easy to find. Not being able to check an important fact could make the difference between getting your press release published or tossed out. Write a press release for the press and you’ll already be steps ahead of the mundane crowd that forgets the true purpose of writing a press release.
