Children are fascinated with origami and art they can create with their hands. Although the little ones will want to make the more complex origami art such as the crane, it will only frustrate them.
An origami puppy is the most age-appropriate start for a child of around Kindergarten age

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • colorful paper cut into a large square
  • crayons or markers
  1. Step 1

Fold the square paper in half, creating a large triangle (not a rectangle).

  2. Step 2

Hold the triangle so that the top point is facing down. Fold the tip of the bottom point under to round off the edge. This will be the puppy's chin.

  3. Step 3

Take the other two pointed ends and fold them down uneven with the edges of the paper so that they overlap a bit. These are the puppy's ears.

  4. Step 4

Now draw a cute face and name your new pup!

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not have square origami paper, you can create a square paper from a rectangular sheet. Take one of the bottom corners and fold it to the opposite side of the paper, keeping the edges even. Then you can cut off the extra paper left at the top. You will have a large triangle remaining, which, when opened will be a square.
  • If your paper is colored on one side and white on the other, make sure the white is on the inside when you fold to make your triangle so that the colored area will be on the outside of the puppy.
