How to Set up a Booksigning

In order to market yourself as a writer, you'll need to work on some basic public relations skills. You can hone in on these skills by selling your books, which sells yourself, at a book signing or appearance. These basic tips will guide you.

Things You’ll Need:

• marketing plan
• jpg files of book cover and yourself
• book with ISBN number
• business cards

1. Check your local bookstores for the availability of your book. You won't have any luck setting up events if your book is not carried there. If you do not see it, you can always submit a review copy to the manager to consider ordering it for future use.
2. Create a plan for your event. What visuals will you have? Will you do a reading or just signing? What excerpts will you discuss?
3. Find out who is in charge of booking events. Contact that person with your marketing plan, available dates, and your own contact information. Make sure you emphasize how featuring you in an appearance or signing will benefit the store.
4. Follow up with the person in charge of booking events. They are very busy people and being persistent pays.
5. Contact the press, friends and family to encourage more attendance of your event.
6. Bring fliers, business cards, a photographer and plenty of copies of your book. Don't forget to bring your charm.
