Things You'll Need:
- paper
- pencil
-
Step 1
Think about the purpose of what you are writing. Are you writing a story? Are you writing a report?
-
Step 2
Choose whether or not you want your piece to be based more around the main character or main plotline.
-
Step 3
To start your character web, draw a circle in the middle of your paper and write the character's name inside it.
-
Step 4
Draw lines coming from it like a sun. Attached to these lines write the names of related characters or details about the main character, whichever you plan on focusing on.
-
Step 5
Continue branching out with details about this character. What they will do, how they are related to the other characters, what events their relationships will spur on etcetera.
-
Step 6
By now you should have what looks like a spider web scribbled out across your page. Have you linked all the details of your story back to that main character? If you have, then you are ready to begin writing about your main character. You will only need to decide in which order to introduce the others.
-
Step 7
If you wish to do this consecutively, you can start your web at the top of the page, and connect the other characters to the first going downward, keeping an order to the story.
-
Step 8
Keep your web, you may wish to redo it for the plot, or other characters, or just to refer back to if you get off track.
-
Step 9
Write away!
