If you want to create a beautiful candle with little effort and big results, a snowflake candle, also known as an ice candle, is a great way to go.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Candle wax
  • A wick
  • Any colors or scents that you want to add
  • A mold
  • Crushed ice
  • A thermometer

Step1
Crush enough ice to fill your mold into pieces the size of dimes and nickels. Store the ice in your freezer.
Step2
Prepare the wick in your candle mold by pulling it through the mold and secure the wick to the top of the mold with a mold bar.
Step3
Seal the mold with whatever method you prefer.
Step4
Melt your wax, using your thermometer to control the temperature. Add scent and color as desired.
Step5
Add the ice to the mold slowly - do not pack it down.
Step6
Pour your wax in QUICKLY before it has a chance to cool overmuch. Your candle should set in 20-30 minutes.
Step7
Remove your cooled candle from the mold as gently as possible over a sink to drain the melted ice.

Tips & Warnings

  • Crushing the ice too much or too little could affect the pattern.
  • Remove the finished candle carefully - water will pour out, and the lacy finish could crumble if you are rough.
  • Burn your candle on a plate or bowl - the wax tends to leak.
  • Do not add too much scent - because of the large surface area, this is a very fragrant candle.
