This is version one of the "Dream of Aces" card trick, which has become one of the most famous card tricks of all time. The magician places the four aces down and proceeds to place three random cards on top of each. Over the Ace of Spades, the cards are face down, while face up over the other three. The magician somehow makes the Aces disappear from the first three columns and turns over the three face down cards over the Ace of Spades. He reveals them to be the other three aces!

Things You'll Need:

  • Three 'trick' aces/double backed aces (ace on front, random card on back)
  1. Step 1

Set the deck up as follows: trick Ace of Hearts, trick Ace of Diamonds, trick Ace of Clubs, real Ace of Spades, real Ace of Hearts, real Ace of Diamonds, real Ace of Clubs, then the rest of the deck.

  2. Step 2

Place the trick Aces in a row. Place the real Ace of Spades in front of that row.

  3. Step 3

Take the next three cards in the deck (real aces) and place them, face down, on top of the Ace of Spades. Leave a little bit of the Ace of Spades showing so the audience knows it is still there.

  4. Step 4

Remove the next three cards from the deck (random cards) and place them underneath the Ace of Hearts, face down. Repeat this process for the Ace of Diamonds and Ace of Clubs.

  5. Step 5

In each of the three piles mentioned in Step #4, place the Ace underneath the cards. Then, place whatever the new top card is underneath everything as well. When finished, you should see three columns of face down cards, and in front of it, the Ace of Spades with three face down cards on top.

  6. Step 6

Going over the three piles mentioned in Step #4, make some sort of a magic motion and turn the piles over. Slowly show each card. The Ace in each pile will have disappeared and turned into a different card. The reason, of course, is because by turning the pile over, you are now looking at the back of the trick ace. After this step, the Aces in the top three columns should appear to be missing to the spectator, nowhere to be found.

  7. Step 7

Go to the pile with the Ace of Spades, that has had three face down cards on top of it this entire time. Turn those three cards over--the Aces! This should absolutely freak out whoever you perform for.
