Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

The first step to keeping your hair healthy is to have regular trims. Try to get your hair trimmed at least once every month if not every two months.

  2. Step 2

Consider cutting your own if you cannot afford to have it done very often. You might even have a friend that could do it for you.

  3. Step 3

Change your shampoo and conditioner every time you run out. Using the same hair products can eventually cause build up and also lose their effectiveness. If you have two favorite brands switch back and forth every time you purchase.

  4. Step 4

If you have untamed hair or tangly hair consider using a leave in conditioner. There are many different kinds available so try them out and find out which one works best for your hair.

  5. Step 5

Try to comb your hair first instead of using a brush. Be gentle with tangles and try not to break your hair.

  6. Step 6

Find a hair mask recipe that you like and do it once a week. The weekends are a great time to take time out for yourself and be pampered.

  7. Step 7

Use the right products. If you have curly hair use products specifically for curly hair. You will get better results using the right specified products for your hair type.

  8. Step 8

Stay away from bleach. Unless you have highlights done at the salon you should stay away from bleach. Bleach damages the hair and makes it more unmanageable.

  9. Step 9

Remember that Less Is More. Try not to use too many hair products on your hair at one time. This means do not pile on hair spray and other products in one sitting. This can cause build up as well.

  10. Step 10

Try to avoid using a blow dryer everyday. If you have no choice in the matter, consider splurging on a top of the line blow dryer that causes minimal damage to your locks.

on 9/30/2009 Hello honey - Many people recommend not to use blow dryers these days. I am wondering my hair is drying very slowly about two to three hours how would a woman who is having a day job manage work without this device?
