Instructions

    • 1

Fill a spray bottle with regular bleach. There's no need to dilute it with water.

    • 2

Spray the moss with the bleach. Watch as it turns white.

    • 3

Wash the bleach off the brick with your garden hose. Stand far enough way that you are out of the range of bleach splatter.

    • 4

Try power washing moss from brick patios and walkways. It tends to come off easier if it's still actively growing. You can buy one, but they are pretty costly, so you may want to rent or borrow one.

    • 5

Set the power washer below 3,000 per square inch of pressure. Anything above that could damage the brick. Keep the wand at least 12 inches away from the brick.

    • 6

Remove extra-stubborn moss by mixing 10 percent bleach with water in a bucket. Use a hard-bristled brush to scrub the brick. Rinse with clean water.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using bleach, test a small area first. Wait several days to make sure the brick doesn't change color.

  • Wear gloves and eye protection when using bleach.

  • Don't spray the mortar joints with high pressure. They could be damaged.
