Macrobiotics focuses on grains and locally grown produce. Refined foods, such as sugar and white flour, are restricted. Whole, natural foods are the basis for Macrobiotic cooking. People who would like to try macrobiotic cooking may be confused by all it includes. Finding a good class to learn the basics is ideal.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find somewhere to take a class. Good places to look are at health food stores and your local county extension office. Check bulletin boards, church groups and newspaper living sections.

  2. Step 2

Prepare for class. If there is a list of things to bring to class make sure that you have everything before class. This list may include cooking equipment and food items.

  3. Step 3

Attend your macrobiotic class. If this is a beginner class, be prepared for a lot of information. Taking a pen and paper for notes may be encouraged. Write down anything you will want to reference later.

  4. Step 4

Ask questions for anything you do not understand. You are there to learn. You may need a point clarified or something explained further.

  5. Step 5

Practice what you have learned in class. You will have learned macrobiotic cooking techniques as well as about the macrobiotic lifestyle. Cooking and eating this way is very rewarding.

Tips & Warnings
  • If there are no local classes available, consider a video or DVD of a macrobiotic cooking class. There are many out there. You can also watch them as many times as you would like.
  • Once you have master basic macrobiotic cooking skills, consider taking more advance classes. The more you learn, the more you become accustomed to the macrobiotic way of life.
