1
Purchase black clothing staples. For women, find corsets and tops with eye-catching details. Interesting sleeves or jagged-edged skirts can pump up your wardrobe, but be sure to find goth clothing items you can wear everyday as well. Black pants and skirts are a standard. For men, look for long, black coats and black, short-sleeved button up shirts.

2
Pick out a number of goth clothing accessories. Purchase necklaces, buttons, hats and belts that go with your standard outfit. Look for interesting bracelets with roses or crosses on them. Also be sure to wear the standard black choker or spiked necklace to add extra flare to your goth wardrobe.

Invest in good shoes that scream goth by finding patent leather boots with large heals or giant buckles on them. Look for shoes that appear menacing, like knee-high boots for girls and black, military-style shoes for men. Remember, black is the color, but the details are where you get to shine.

Find retailers that specialize in goth clothing. Whether online or at the mall, there are many goth clothing retailers available. Search online stores like The Black Angel for unique pieces, but for everyday goth wear, visit your local mall and buy the basics.

This is a good article, don't get me wrong, but what ever happened to doing it yourself. I, myself, aren't goth or anything like that, mainly because I hate labels. But I wear dark clothes, and make my own clothes. I also listen to a range of music from the original goth music, to death metal. Every where I turn, everyone is saying go to the mall. And then the same people turn around and call the ones that get their clothes from the mall posers. Why don't the older generation help the younger generation out for once, instead of looking down their noses at them and running them into the ground. n my opinion, If your wearing what you like, and doing what you like, your not a poser. Your being yourself, and there's nothing wrong with that. -

No store at the mall will sell legit Goth clothing. Gothic attire should be high-quality and unique. You're not going to find that in mass-marketed low quality places like Hot Topic. -

Make it your own! :) It's sad to see conformity in the gothiness. Defeats the point of trying to look different when you *gasp* look the same as every other goth.
