Select the edging material for the job. Read and understand the directions for how to install that type of landscape edging. Also, buy enough to finish the job properly.
-
2
Use your rototiller to till the area where you are going to install the edging. Cut any roots. Use the tiller to mark the border of the flowerbed.
-
-
3
Dig a trench around the flowerbed. It needs to be at least 4 to 6 inches deep to stop grass from invading your flowerbed.
-
4
Set the landscape edging in the ground. The top should be only be about 1 inch above the ground. If you have more gap than that, add some sand to the trench.
-
5
Connect any pieces of landscape edging. Place stakes or anchors about every 4 feet or as recommended by the manufacturer of the landscape edging you chose. Make sure the edging is level all the way around the flowerbed.
-
6
Backfill the trench on the non-lawn side of the flowerbed. Use a shovel for this. Tamp the dirt so that it's solid against the landscape edging.
-
7
Soak the area with water. You may need to place more dirt against the edging as the soil settles around the edging.
