MADD was founded in 1980 to help the victims affected by drunk drivers who killed or injured other drivers or pedestrians. Mothers Against Drunk Driving works very hard to curb underage drinking. Through advocacy programs, speaking engagements, literature and legislative activities, their message reaches thousands of people every year.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out whether there is a chapter in your area. Go to MADD's website (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Click on "Go Local." Choose your state from the drop-down menu and see where the chapters are.

  3. Step 3

Contact your local chapter by calling the number on the screen. Tell them that you're interested in joining MADD. Discuss your availability and strengths. If you're great at fund raising, for example, that's where you should focus your energy.

  4. Step 4

Take action. MADD is working on raising awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving. They need your help in a number of ways. It's a nonprofit organization, so it won't turn away your help.

  5. Step 5

Fill out the volunteer form located on the MADD website. People are needed to become victim's advocates, speak at schools, raise money and distribute literature, among other functions.

  6. Step 6

Call MADD headquarters in Irving, Texas at 800-GET-MADD. Ask how you can get involved.

Tips & Warnings
  • MADD always needs donations, too. Find out how to give on their website.
