How to Behave at a Dinner Party
Our society has become very casual, and as a result many people no longer know how to behave at a dinner party. It's always better to be more formal whenever you're in doubt. How to behave at a dinner party actually starts before you even arrive.

1
Inform your host that you'll be attending the dinner party. If there is any possibility that you'll be arriving very late for any reason, try to let your host know early on.
-
2
Choose the outfit you plan to wear to the dinner party. If you have a written invitation to the dinner party, read it carefully to determine the dress code. If you don't have a written invitation, communicate with the host, and he or she will be able to tell you what the suggested attire is.

3
Let the host know several days prior to the dinner party if you have any dietary restrictions. This will allow the host to plan according to your dietary needs. Don't abuse this courtesy. Request a special food selection only if it's medically or religiously needed.
-
4
Don't arrive earlier than 15 minutes from the start of the dinner party. Wait in your car a few extra minutes if you get there too early.
-
5
Sit to the right of your male date if you're a female.
-
6
Wait to eat until everyone at your table is served.
-
7
Place your napkin on your lap before eating. Never tuck your napkin into your shirt.
-
8
Never allow your napkin to touch the table once it's been used.
-
9
Turn your cell phone off. Let your host know if you need to keep your cell phone on "Vibrate" mode if you're "on call" for work.
-
10
Place your utensils at the right upper part of your plate on a diagonal when you're finished eating.
